The association between academic performance and locus of control was analyzed in a population of 270 students in the academic programs of industrial metrology technology, professional technique in metrological processes, professional technique in petrochemical process operation, and industrial process technology at the University of Cartagena between the years 2021 and 2022. The survey was used to evaluate academic performance from the conceptual, global, and procedural dimensions. The locus of control was evaluated using the Rotter test (1966), which was designed and validated by the same author. Likewise, the adaptation of said test applied at the University of Virginia and consisting of 20 items was used. To analyze the relationship, variables were crossed using contingency tables and the Chi-Square statistical test. Cronbach's alpha values of 0.82 for academic performance and 0.79 for locus of control guarantee a high degree of internal consistency for each of the tests. The results demonstrate statistical significance (p<0.05) between academic performance and locus of control (p=0.0000) at a 95% confidence level. This means that the vast majority of students in these academic programs possess a high degree of self-control, autonomy, determination, confidence, and persistence, which impact their academic performance and achievement.
